Rachel & Tyler had the dream of a sunset lakeside wedding ceremony, surrounded by their closest friends and family. The weather had a different plan for their wedding day. Like so many other couples in Maine this year, it was a wet wedding day for Rachel & Tyler. It was raining hard, not like a little sprinkle here and there, for most of the day- I am talking downpour status. Then the wind decided it wanted to join the party too and made things a little extra wild!
They decided they were still going through with their dream, minus the sunset. Rachel and Tyler were married on the family lake house on Coffee Pond, at “sunset” beneath the beautiful trees and witnessed by a handful of very special guests. I can not express how impressed I was with these two wonderful humans. They truly embraced the weather and put love front a center, above anything else. They wanted to be married on the lawn by the lake, and that is exactly what they did!
It was dark and I was a bit nervous. Outside on a rainy day, very close to sunset, does not usually add up to epic images, but with the strategically placed string lights and some camera setting sorcery, it was stunning. Maybe it was the lights, maybe it was the radiant glow of love, but these photos are some of my favorite rainy day ceremony images to date!
I had a small amount of time with Rachel and Tyler on their wedding day but, boy, did they make a lasting impression! We did a super fast portrait session as if it wasn’t torrentially raining. “Why don’t you pop out on the dock for a few?” I suggested. “Sure” was their instant answer. They stood out on that dock, wind blasting, rain pelting, completely captivated by one another. Smiling and looking lovingly into each other’s eyes without a worry in the world. It was quite magical to witness.
After all the rainy portraits were completed, the couple dried off for some cocktails and appetizers before settling in to an intimate, wine centered, dinner.
