Kelsey & David – Three Chimneys Inn, Durham New Hampshire

May 7, 2025

Kelsey and David’s wedding day started off with a blue sky, puffy white clouds and a warm spring breeze. Everyone had high hopes that the slight chance of rain would hold off until after the ceremony. We were all wrong. It started sprinkling about 15 minutes before Kelsey and David were to have their first look. We were heading down to the lobby to have a first look with Kelsey’s dad when the clouds moved out and the sky cleared- we changed our plan to have the bride and groom first look while we had the chance….and then it started sprinkling again. It was hot in the lobby so Kelsey made the trek back up the three flights of stairs to cool off while we changed up the game plan, again. After 5 or so minutes, mother nature gave us another break. So back down Kelsey came to finally have her first look with David. Kelsey and I were hesitant to put her train on the ground because it was a bit damp and we didn’t want her dress to get wet, silly us!

Kelsey and David shared a beautiful first look under the big trees in the lower garden. We changed up the timeline, again, and decided to get as many portraits done as we possibly could before the ceremony. Rain was moving in right after the ceremony so we had to move quickly! Bridal, wedding party and family portraits were all 90% done when we had to hide away before the guests arrived- thanks to Kelsey’s perfect planning and list making!

Ceremony time- this is when the day became legendary. David was standing at the front of the isle, waiting for his bride. Guests were seated and the wedding party was lined up waiting for their que. A distant rumble of thunder was heard. A few drops fell. The groomsmen and the bridesmaids started making their way down the isle. The sprinkles turned into rain and umbrellas went up. The wedding party was in position waiting for Kelsey to make her way to the ceremony when the sky opened up. When I say opened up, I mean torrential downpour! Kelsey and David embraced every second of it- the smiles and acceptance of wild unpredictability was nothing short of magical!

As the ceremony wrapped up, the guests made their way up to the reception space in the Inn. As they filed in, every single person was soaking wet and every single person had a huge smile on their face. This was a wedding that no one will ever forget!

Kelsey and David had another private ceremony, inside, where we could actually hear the officiant’s kind words to the couple. We finished up the last bit of family photos and it was off to party!

I have never photographed an outside wedding ceremony in such crazy rain. I am pretty sure that was the max amount of water my cameras could handle! Kelsey mentioned that she is very “type A” and does not love when things go off schedule. There was A LOT of moving parts and pieces to this wedding day and both Kelsey and David handled it like champs.

Days later, I can’t stop chuckling to myself every time I think think of Kelsey and I being so hesitant to put her wedding dress on the ground before the first look and how we were literally squeezing water out of it with a towel after the ceremony- what a wild day!

All the best to Kelsey and David! My favorite quote of the day: “You can’t untie a wet knot!”
