All week the forecast showed solid rain, with some heavy downpours dappled in. Not particularly ideal for a wedding weekend. Alex contacted me early in the week asking about umbrellas and such. My heart broke for her- no one wants torrential rain on the day they planned months/years for. But did she complain or seem mad? Nope. She took it like a champ and was preparing to be inside and hoping to hop outside for a couple photos under umbrellas. When you have your wedding booked at the beautiful Beech Ridge Barn you really want to take advantage of all the outdoor beauty they have to offer.
Fast forward to Friday when the rain was supposed to start, but it didn’t. The forecast was still showing a complete wash out for Saturday. Saturday morning rolls around, I open my eyes expecting to see doom and gloom and BAM there was that bright ball of fire in the sky! Insanity. I didn’t want to get too excited but the weather now was saying a minimal chance of precipitation.
Honestly, I love the rain. Rain on your wedding day does not equal a total loss. It can be sweet and romantic and beautiful in its own way. However, Alex and Sean just wanted a sunny, warm September day in Maine to celebrate with friends and family. AND THEY GOT IIIIIIITTTTTTT!
Alex and Sean had the sweetest private ceremony for immediate family prior to their larger ceremony. It was one of the sweetest things I have witnessed on a wedding day. They exchanged personal vows under the big trees on the bridge in the back of the property. There was laughter and tears and a whole lot of love. Perfection in every way.
The rest of the day followed suit. The intimate ceremony was followed by the second ceremony (which was also lovely) and then a cocktail style reception. The guests were able mingle and eat whenever they wanted. I loved how Alex and Sean didn’t stick to any strict formal rules for their wedding day. They made it their own. Everything was very elegant and casual all at the same time. After most people had filled their bellies and had gathered back into the barn, the speeches started and were killer! Each speaker had the crowd and couple in tears of laughter and joy- the best kind! The rest of the night was filled with a happening dance floor- which I am assuming did not stop until the reception wrapped up.
Congratulations to Alex and Sean- thank you thank you for being an amazing couple and an absolute breeze to photograph!
