About 10 days before Marissa and Joe’s wedding day I started hearing about this hurricane in the Atlantic Ocean. I started casually watching the weather, honestly, not REALLY thinking it would make its way up the coast to Maine. Rarely do hurricanes do that. I mean, what are the chances? Well, chances were good…too good. SO good that Rockport is where the eye of the storm was predicted to hit, on Saturday afternoon, at the time of Marissa and Joe’s scheduled ceremony.
I received a call from the couple on Wednesday. The wedding was being moved to Friday. The whole wedding was being moved in two days. Now, planning a wedding is a huge task. There are so many details and logistics to line up just perfectly. I honestly don’t know how Marissa and Joe pulled this off. It almost seems impossible to call all the vendors to reschedule- venue, cake, DJ, photo, hair, makeup, florist, etc. I can’t imagine how hard they were crossing their fingers that these people were all available to move the date. Then they had to contact all the guests and let them know the wedding was being pushed up. As I am writing this, it all just feels so overwhelming. But, they did it. Marissa and Joe successfully moved their entire wedding day in just two days. I am in awe of their quick action and perseverance.
It was, in my opinion, the best move possible. Friday was wonderful in the weather department- sunny, warm with a cool breeze coming off the ocean…which I am sure was the start of Hurricane Lee. I am actually a little less bitter thinking of Lee now- 1: because the wedding was perfection from start to finish and 2: the stiff breeze made for some epic veil/dress shots on the breakwater!
It was not a typical wedding day timeline. The ceremony took place at 10 AM because the tent had to be taken down by late afternoon for safety reasons. It was very odd to wake up before the sun and drive to a wedding venue but if 10 AM ceremonies and 11 AM portrait sessions result in this kind of light, then sign me up every time because, wow!
Marissa and Joe deserved a picture perfect wedding, and although it might have been super stressful getting there, I believe they achieved this. My heart was so heavy for them at the start of last week when things were looking very ominous. My heart, now, feels nothing but happiness looking through their photos and seeing all of their hard work and love shine in each and every image.
Congratulations Joe and Marissa- you crushed your wedding day in every way possible and it was truly a joy to be there!
