I lived in Boothbay for a summer back in my hay day and I always love going back to visit the area, especially to photograph a wedding! Jessica and Evan were married at the beautiful Newagen Seaside Inn in Southport Maine, right next door to Boothbay. The day was full of adventure with poison ivy encounters, to boat rides to some tattoos being shown off on some backsides in the light of day- I wish I could include those photos, but hey, this is a family friendly blog!
It was a perfect summer day to celebrate on the coast of Maine. The sun was shining, a cool breeze was blowing and there was a bunch of people gathered to celebrate Jess & Evan’s wedding day! We started out with a first look on the rocks out by the ocean. Parents of one of the bridesmaids (Kelly, who is just as cool as her parents!) let me know there was poison ivy scattered about. I was very thankful to know it was there but it was still so hard to avoid. I definitely stepped in a chunk a time or two and I’m pretty sure Jessica did as well- but the photos were sooo worth it! I’d step in poison ivy any day to capture those moments.
Jessica and I spoke a couple weeks ago to finalize timeline details and she really wanted a good amount of formal photos done prior to the ceremony so her and Evan could enjoy their cocktail hour. We of course made plans for this to happen and were able to get all of the photos done beforehand. I am so glad we did because there was a boat waiting for the newly married couple right after the ceremony to take them for a joy ride. I can’t express how happy Jessica & Evan were on that boat. After that experience I feel like every couple should go on a boat ride immediately after their vows! It was a time to take a moment to themselves, to look around at the beautiful coast, to take some deep breathes and enjoy a quiet moment as husband and wife.
I can’t possibly pick a favorite wedding that I have photographed. It is like picking a favorite kid- just can’t do it. But this day was a great, great day. Not only were Jessica and Evan some of the sweetest people I have ever met, all of their guest were so fun and loving as well. I even got to be IN a photo! A sweet eight year old girl came up to me and said I should be in a picture, so she ran to get her parent’s phone and we took a selfie together, then she gave me a hug…my heart just about burst! I can’t thank Jess & Evan enough for being amazing people and inviting me to document their wedding day. If I didn’t have three kiddos and a husband to get home to I would have 100% stayed and partied with them!
Congratulations guys- I hope our paths cross again. All the best to you Mr. and Mrs. Bergeron!
